THE WHITE HOUSE B&B

As the name implies, The White HouseB&B  is white in color, is a charming orchard home built in the early 1900's and is located on a beautiful tree lined lane in Medford, Oregon. Owner Kathie Rulon warmly greeted us on arrival and escorted us to a very large and elegant queen suite with private bath, personal robes, large screen TV with movie channels and buttered popcorn flavored Jelly belly jelly beans.

This beautiful home was built in 1906 in an area that, within 2 years, become  Hillcrest Orchard.
The Hillcrest Orchards have been operated by the Parsons family since 1908 and although original owners Reginald and Maude Parsons died in 1955, their four children and eleven grandchildren oversee the current operation.  Hillcrest is one of the oldest continuously-owned family orchards in the Rogue Valley.

After a short tour of the home and casual conversation we made our breakfast selections from an assortment of options that Kathie had craftily written out on post cards.  Mike requested the french toast made with local cinnamon chip bread with a side order of applewood smoked bacon. I opted for scrambled eggs and bacon complimented with small round potatoes and wheat toast.  Kathie also provided a pastry basket, poached pears and French press coffee to round out our breakfast experience.

During our brief stay Kathie related a story to us that at one time the street of Valley View, which is where this home is located, was the farthest point on the streetcar line that ran to downtown Medford. Over several years and numerous renovations, it now sits as a visually strikingly and elegant home located in the older east side area of Medford.  It is a 5-star rated property and very well deserved.
