A husband accuses his wife of talking
too much after reading a study that said men use about 15,000 words daily but
women use 30,000. Eager to prove his
point he shows her the study results. The wife thought for a while, then finally said to her husband "It's
because we have to repeat everything we say." The husband replied
"What?"
We all know that men and woman
are different and Defending the Caveman explored those things that make men and
women fight, laugh and love. It blended stand-up comedy
and lecture with a therapy session as it attempted to resolve the battle between
the sexes. The play defended the male viewpoint but was still sympathetic to
the female side of the issues.
Defending the Caveman
was written by Rob Becker, an American actor and comedian. It has been seen by more than eight million
people in forty-five countries around the world and performed in over thirty
different languages.
Becker took over three years to write
the comedy and he personally performed the play until early 2006. In 1996, it became the longest running one
man play in the history of Broadway. It
still holds that record. Since his
retirement a team of eight others have taken up his torch.
We laughed the night away as Cody Lyman,
who joined Caveman in 2004, brought the stage to life at the Craterian Theater
last weekend. The play proved to be “spot on”, reinforcing why we were there in
the first place. This was part of our 45th
wedding anniversary weekend.
